Annemieke Bes: “At the age of 12 I started sailing and making my way up from Optimist to several youth classes to Olympic sailing. I did compete in three Olympic campaigns in two different classes and with 6 different crew mates. In Athens 2004 we just missed the podium with a 4th but in Beijing 2008 we won the Silver Medal. After that I switched to match racing, we learned quickly but just lost the quarterfinals in London 2012.”

“In spring 2013 I got the opportunity to go on trial a team SCA. That’s when I got hooked on offshore racing. My goal is to compete and perform in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018. From 2013 until now I’m working on the transfer from being an Olympic sailor to become a Volvo Ocean Race sailor.”

“I have sailed and worked on different yachts and I’m trying to get as much experience as I can get in all aspects. Beside sailing I’m interested in Physical training. This year I passed my NASM Personal Trainer exam and when I’m not on a yacht you can probably find me somewhere in a gym.”
